The Hippocratic oath, the sacred document that all physicians swear to uphold upon becoming a doctor, includes the following clause:
“I will remember that there is art to medicine as well as science”.

Perhaps in no field in medicine are these words more closely adhered to than gynecology. And increasingly, this prescient statement is applicable to a rapidly growing component of healthcare: women’s health.

Medicine is build on science. That fact is indisputable. But there is another side to it, one that relies on intuition, passion, and most importantly, a dedication to looking beyond what is plainly there to understand the fundamentals of what makes humans who they are and how they differ from one another. Sometimes it is as simple as understanding what makes us unique. The fertility department offers medicine’s most advanced services, evaluations and treatments for fertility problems that cover;

In vitro fertilisation (IVF) The broad range of best practice fertility services treat infertility, hormonal imbalances, reproductive organ structure issues, decreased sperm quality, and unexplained infertility. IVF and assisted reproductive therapy treatments include: ovulation induction, intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), micromanipulation, embrio cryopreservation, testicular biopsies, pre-implantation genetic diagnosis (PGD), and fertility counselling.

Male fertility: Forty to 50% of infertility in couples is due to male-related factors. The fertility department conducts testing and evaluations to determine whether infertility is due to the man’s “part of the equation” and provides treatment to help resolve these issues.

Sperm banking: The sperm bank helps women and couples achieve pregnancy through sperm donation and implantation. The department performs sperm testing, prepares sperm for insemination, and conducts male genetic and biological test with the goal of promoting fertility.

Fertility preservation: For women of reproductive age with cancer who undergoing chemotherapy or radiotherapy, preserving fertility may be the only way to conceive a biological child at a later time. The fertility department offers three preservation services: freezing eggs, cryopreserving embryos or freezing ovaries that contain eggs.

Egg donation for in vitro fertilisation: This service is designed for women who have had recurrent pregnancy loss or women who can not produce quality oocytes due to medical conditions such as early ovarian failure or an autoimmune disease. In addition, women with genetic diseases that could prevent the birth of a healthy child and women who have undergone chemotherapy or radiation therapy can also benefit from donated eggs.

Obstetrical and gynecological ultrasounds
The unit performs a wide range of examinations to determine the normalcy of the pregnancy: follow up for normal pregnancy, nuchal translucency, early and late pregnancy screening tests, special tests for clarifying identified fetal defects, three dimensional imaging, genetic testing, chorionic villi sampling (CVS), amniocentesis, aspiration of fetal cysts, and others.The staff of the unit accompanies high-risk pregnancies by assessing fetal growth, uterine-fetal circulation, and amniotic fluid volume.
